It’s quick and easy. You don’t need any extra software or downloads - just internet access (broadband is highly recommended). See our Computer Requirements page for more details. Choose someone to be the your firm or branch administrator. They will be responsible for administering the online users for your firm, including:
- creating and removing users for the firm
- ensuring all users have access to and learn from the relevant online training package modules
- administering passwords.
Your firm administrator and others using the system will need to do the full training from our online learning pack before starting to use the system. This is supported with a training telephone helpline. You may have more than one firm administrator, but we recommend you limit the number as a security measure.
To get set up using this service, including training, give us the details below by sending an email to online@slab.org.uk
Your firm's contact details - name of your firm, firm code, address and office telephone number
Firm administrator - name of your firm administrator, what is their role or post, a note of their e-mail address and solicitor's code if relevant.
Which type of case does your firm offer - A&A, Civil or Criminal
Once we have your details we will set your firm up to use legal aid online and get in touch with your nominated firm administrator with all the login details and give you instructions on how to start using our online learning pack to make it easy to get up and running with our service.

Our online e-learning course assumes you are already familiar with paper-based advice and assistance and legal aid applications (and other subsequent stages) and accounts.
The course is made up of eight modules - but you only need to study the topics you need:
- Module 1: Getting started - 15 minutes
- Module 2: Administration (Firm Administrators only) -15 minutes
- Module 3: Attachments - 10 minutes
- Module 4: Advice and assistance – 1:30 minutes
- Module 5: Civil applications – 1 hour 20 minutes
- Module 6: Criminal applications - 20 minutes
- Module 7: Children’s – coming soon (this should be updated with a time in due course once Walkgrove have confirmed this).
- Module 8: Search case – 15 minutes
