Citizens Advice Bureau
- you may be able to get free advice about your legal rights from
your local Citizens Advice Bureau and they may be able to put
you in touch with a local solicitor who has experience of dealing
with cases like yours. This
site can help you find your nearest CAB.
Law Centres
- Some larger towns and cities have law centres which provide
free and independent legal advice to people who live or work in
their catchment areas, although they sometimes specialise in areas
such as welfare law and immigration law. You can find your
nearest Law
Centre here.
The
Scottish Legal Aid Board is responsible for administering the legal
aid system in Scotland. It does not have any role in immigration
or citizenship issues. It does not itself provide legal advice.
You
may be able to get some assistance from the Home
Office Immigration and Nationality Directorate.
Legal aid in other countries
If
your legal problem can only be resolved in another country, the
Scottish Legal Aid Board cannot help you.
For information about legal aid in England and Wales contact the
Legal Services Commission, 85 Gray's Inn Road, London WC1 8AA, telephone
020 7759 0000. You may wish also to visit their websites:
http://www.communitylegaladvice.org.uk
website of the Community Legal Advice service (which includes civil legal
aid), which is administered by the Commission.
A Scottish
solicitor may be able to give you advice and assistance to help
you find a solicitor in England or Wales to deal with your problem.
Many
other countries have legal aid schemes although they may not cover
the same things as Scotland's. Your solicitor will be able to help
you find a solicitor abroad, or you can contact the Board for information.
